Oakland police investigate fatal shootings of two men that might be connected

Police are investigating two possibly related fatal shootings that took place early Saturday morning in East Oakland.

Oakland police responded to multiple gunshots by their ShotSpotter system, to the 900 block of 77th Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. and found a victim with gunshot wounds, police confirmed to KPIX

The officers gave the victim medical assistance until they were relieved by paramedics, but despite their efforts, the victim died at the scene, according to the news station.

A short time later, a second individual with gunshot wounds was dropped off at a hospital, where the second person died from the wounds, police told the station.

The victims have yet to be identified until the police can notify their family.

Preliminary investigations suggest these incidents may be related, police confirmed to KPIX. The police have yet to share the victims' names because they are waiting for their families have been notified.

The men shot became the 36 and 37 homicides in Oakland this year.
