Oakland reached a grim milestone Monday, recording its 100th murder in 2020.
The city hasn't hit that unfortunate mark since 2012.
Oakland’s ShotSpotter system captured the sound of shots Monday night at an East Oakland gas station. The gun battle broke out shortly after an unrelated deadly triple shooting near the Laurel District on MacArthur Blvd. that killed a 26-year-old Stockton man and sent two people to the hospital, one fighting for his life.
"In the last week, we’ve had an attempted murder of two highway patrol officers," Oakland Police Officer’s Association President Barry Donlan told KCBS Radio. "On Sunday night we had an eight-year-old just playing video games at home…shot when a bullet comes through the wall and shoots him. We had two more murders. (Monday) night was the third, bringing us to 100 murders for the year.”

There are still over three weeks left of 2020, all under stay-at-home orders.
Officials think that’s been part of the reason they're seeing a double digit spike in violent crime. Suspects aren't being held in jail because of COVID-19 concerns, plus more people are out of work.
The last time Oakland saw 100 murders was eight years ago when the city ended 2012 with 125.
There are no suspects in Monday's triple shooting.
