OAKLEY, Calif. (KCBS RADIO) – The ex-boyfriend of a missing Oakley woman suspected of killing her was shot and killed as authorities attempted to arrest him in Washington state, authorities announced on Thursday.

Police said Marshall Jones was killed as members of the the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force tried to serve an arrest warrant on Wednesday in the death of 24-year-old Alexis Gabe. She was last seen on Jan. 26 in Antioch at Jones' house, police said.

As officers approached Jones on Wednesday, Oakley Police Chief Paul Beard said he came out "of the front door with a knife and he charged those officers." He died at the scene after he was shot because of "those deadly and threatening actions," Beard added.

The incident happened at a home in Kent, Washington.

Jones reportedly moved there days after Gabe went missing.

Following Gabe's disappearance, her car was later discovered abandoned in Oakley with the keys still in the ignition, but personal items like her phone and wallet have yet to be found. Police searched an Antioch residence in February and uncovered surveillance footage last month of a man they believe dropped off Gabe's car the night she went missing.

Police have been investigating her disappearance in the months since, tracking her digital footprint and using other means extensively.

"We believe that Alexis Gabe is the victim of a homicide," Beard said, marking the first time in the investigation it's been revealed Gabe is believed to have been killed. It wasn't immediately clear when that allegedly happened.

Gabe's family and friends attended the news conference on Thursday.

"Our daughter will remain alive in our minds and in our hearts," said Gabe's father, Gwyn Gabe. "We will continue to search for her until we find her."

She is 5 feet 7 inches tall and 170 pounds and was last seen wearing a white tank top under a silver and black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and green and white Nike Jordan shoes. Her body has not been found.

There is no known motive.
