A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in a collision on I-80 early Friday morning in Vacaville, California Highway Patrol announced.
Officers responded to reports at 3:18 a.m. of a person lying unconscious in the number two lane of eastbound I-80 west of Nut Tree Rd. They determined the victim was hit by a vehicle, and declared the pedestrian dead on the scene. The vehicle that struck the person still remained on the highway.
All eastbound lanes in the area of the incident were shut down briefly before reopening at 5:22 a.m.
Authorities have withheld the name of the victim pending next of kin notification. They did not release the victim’s gender either.
Anyone with further information is asked to call the Solano Area CHP at 707-428-2100. The investigation is ongoing and the suspect remains at-large.
