A person was critically injured Thursday after being shot while driving on Interstate 680 in Danville.

At around 10 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers received reports of a shooting northbound on the highway near Crow Canyon Rd.

Two people were driving in a black Nissan Rogue when an individual in another vehicle opened fire on the victims, officials said. The driver of the Nissan was struck by several bullets and taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. The passenger was not injured in the gunfire.

Following the shooting, northbound I-680 was closed for three hours while officers investigated the incident.

The status and identities of the victims have not yet been revealed.
