As promoters, venues and artists around the country have started issuing updated health protocols, Petaluma's Phoenix Theater issued their own late last week saying patrons would need to be fully vaccinated to attend shows as of September 1, 2021.
A few days later, the venue has responded to strong reaction by updating the policy to allow those with negative COVID tests within 48 hours to attend.
"Since we made the announcement that the Phoenix Theater will be requiring proof of vaccination to attend events at the Phoenix, I think we have received the strongest reaction we have ever received to any announcement we have ever made." Manager Tom Gaffey wrote in a post about the policy change.
"Also we want to get ahead of a policy that we will most likely be mandated to put in place before we sell too many more tickets that might require refunding. Hence the infamous announcement, last Friday." He added.
Masks will be required at all shows at The Phoenix & full vaccination will be required for the September 18th show with Ty Segall. Meanwhile, nearby venue The Mystic Theatre, announced they will only allow attendees and staff who are fully vaccinated starting September 7th.
