A neighborhood in Pinole was under lockdown orders for several hours Monday morning because of a police standoff.
Police say they were called to a home on Marlesta Rd. at 10:30 p.m. Sunday evening on reports of shots fired and a pit bull that had been shot and killed. Several hours later, police located the suspect and the situation escalated into a standoff.
Residents living along Kildare Way between Marlesta Road and Kilkenney Way were ordered to shelter in place for nearly four hours.
Residents were told to stay indoors, close and lock their windows and doors, stay off the phone and avoid calling 911 unless there was a serious emergency.
Several schools in the area were also affected and closed in-person instruction for the day. The lockdown order was not directly connected to the schools, but they were located in the affected area.
The suspect eventually surrendered peacefully and police took him into custody, lifting the lockdown order after nearly four hours.
