The Benicia Police Department arrested a 16-year-old on Thursday for making a threat of a shooting on a Benicia High School-related Instagram page.

The threat, posted to Benicia High Confessions, was investigated by the police and determined not to be a legitimate threat to the safety and students of the school, according to a statement issued Thursday afternoon by Benicia Unified School District Superintendent Charles F. Young.

"We are grateful for the diligence and expertise of our Police Department and to our students, staff, and community for their understanding and support," Young wrote. "During these scary and difficult times, it is through partnering with our community that helps us create a safe learning environment for our students and staff."

The 16-year-old was arrested Thursday morning after posting anonymously to the Instagram page.

The page has since been taken down and the teen is going to be booked into Solano County juvenile hall.

The teen’s family is cooperating with the investigation. His identity has not been disclosed as he is a minor.
