
Milpitas police engaged in a high-speed chase on Sunday after a man suspected of killing his former girlfriend took off in a vehicle with her body in the backseat. The chase ended when he crashed his car by Warren Ave. in Fremont, according to a police department press release.
Police initially responded to a welfare check that was called in before 1 p.m. by a concerned party for a woman who suspected her ex-boyfriend of following her.

When officers arrived at the scene by Dixon Road and N. Milpitas Boulevard, the woman's car was peeling out of a parking lot and a witness reported that they saw her dead body in the backseat. After police gave chase, the car crashed.
The man driving, a 42-year-old San Jose resident, suffered injuries from the crash as well as reportedly self-inflicted injuries. He was taken to a hospital to receive medical treatment.
The 35-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, likely from injuries police reported are "consistent with being assaulted with a weapon," according to the release.
According to investigators, the victim and suspect had a prior dating relationship. There is no additional threat the community.
Both identities are being withheld while the victim’s next of kin is being notified.
