Skeletal remains found in a Wonder Valley desert field have been identified as a Walnut Creek woman reported missing last year, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
On June 17, 2020, Erika Ashley Lloyd was reported missing by her family. She was believed to be traveling to Joshua Tree National Park.
Her remains were found on January 31 by hikers near Danby Road.
Deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station responded and officials were able to identify the remains as Lloyd.
On the “Bring Erika Home” Facebook page, her brother posted about the death, thanking sheriff’s officials and the public for their support.
“My wish is that we can all lean in a little closer, hold each other up, and remind each other more often that we’re here for one another with open arms and endless love; it’s what she would have wanted; it’s the spirit of who she was,” he wrote.
The 37-year-old woman was last seen in person on Sunday, June 14 in the City of Walnut Creek.
Law enforcement personnel and volunteers conducted many searches in the weeks and months following her disappearance.
Lloyd’s black Honda Accord was reportedly found abandoned and vandalized near Twentynine Palms.
Sheriff’s officials said the cause and manner of death are undetermined, and the investigation is ongoing.
