The Rainbow Flag is flying above San Francisco City Hall Monday in honor of Pride Month, just as City Hall opens its doors again for the public.
The city plans to reopen when California reopens fully next week, and according to Mayor London Breed, San Francisco’s success in fighting COVID-19 has been no accident.
"What we have done here has everything to do with the challenges that we faced in the ‘80s during the AIDS crisis," Breed said during her speech in front of City Hall.
The Rainbow Flag was designed in San Francisco in the 1970s.

"Four decades later, the flag is an international symbol of joy, of resistance, of visibility, of hope and of queerness at self," said Pride Executive Director Fred Lopez. While there will still be no parade down Market St. or huge party at Civic Center this year due to COVID-19, there will be a mix of virtual and in-person events including film screenings this weekend at Oracle Park.
