San Francisco is launching the Guaranteed Income Pilot to support the city’s artists amid the pandemic, Mayor London Breed announced Thursday.
Over a period of six months, the program will give monthly payments of $1,000 to 130 eligible artists, who must have lost revenue because of the pandemic.
“The arts are truly critical to our local economy and are an essential part of our long-term recovery,” Breed said. “If we help the arts recover, the arts will help San Francisco recover.”
Officials said San Francisco’s arts and culture sector generated $1.45 billion in annual economic activity and supported almost 40,000 full-time jobs before the pandemic.
The Guaranteed Income Pilot is a product of the Office of Racial Equity at the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, the Arts Impact Endowment and YBCA.
Applications are due April 15 at 11:59 p.m. Interested artists can apply on the YBCA website.
