As the climate crisis continues to worsen, rising sea levels are threatening communities along the California Coast.
State legislators are offering several short and long term solutions for the impending sea level, including to build more sea walls and add more sand to the beaches.
"In the long run, there’s no way we can hold back the Pacific Ocean," said Gary Grigg, the leading expert on California’s coastal geology. "We need to begin to think about how we are going to relocate - how do we move structures back from the shoreline."
Grigg told KCBS Radio that smaller communities will be easier to move, but large cities will prove difficult.
"You start looking at places like downtown San Francisco or San Diego. Those are problems," he said. "How we’re going to attack (those problems) that is really difficult to say at this point."
