San Francisco police last week arrested a man suspected of injuring an 88-year-old woman in a hit and run.
Binh Tran, a 63-year-old city resident, was arrested last Friday in the city’s Outer Sunset district, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Tran was then booked at the San Francisco County Jail on one count of felony hit and run.
Police said a white sedan hit an 88-year-old woman as she was crossing a crosswalk near Fulton Ave. and Pierce St. on July 21, before then fleeing the scene. She was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, and investigators were told she was expected to survive.
Tran was arrested two days after the accident, on the 1700 block of 43rd Ave. His car was towed and taken for further investigation.
Police didn’t say if Tran’s vehicle matched the description of the one involved in the accident.
A conviction on the hit-and-run charge could potentially result in up to four years in state prison or as long as a year in county jail if the accident resulted "in death or permanent, serious injury."
Police said an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
