A San Francisco community leader has resigned following allegations of rape.
Jon Jacobo, chair of the health committee for the Latino Task Force and vice president of the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District, announced on Friday that he was taking a leave of absence via Twitter.
His resignation follows allegations by housing activist and Stanford student Sasha Perigo that Jacobo had allegedly sexually assaulted her on April 4. Perigo’s statement, posted to Twitter early Friday, included screenshots of text messages, evidence of tests and a report filed with San Francisco police.
Jacobo responded to the allegations by explaining that his memory of the events is different and that he believed the relationship was consensual, but added that "every woman and victim of trauma needs to be heard."
KCBS Radio has reached out to Perigo and Jacobo for comment but has not yet heard back.
