The city has not mandated a lockdown, but some restaurants in San Francisco are choosing to shut their doors for New Year's Eve anyway.

New Year's is usually a time when restaurants can charge a premium for fancy meals, but some have decided it's just not worth the risk.

Che Fico is one well known spot that last minute canceled bookings and pivoted to home meal kits and Cassava restaurant in the Richmond District also decided to close. Cassava co-owner Yuka Ioroi said in some ways it’s a repeat of last year, though she’s hoping it will be better this time around.

"I think we're just all in a better place, that this is probably a month thing, a month or two. We're hoping that we can open before Valentine's Day," she told KCBS Radio.

It's not the first time that Cassava has gone further than San Francisco health mandates. Last Wednesday, the restaurant started requiring booster shots for indoor dining.

"I didn't really expect a lot of pushback about the booster requirement because we know our current clientele and they like our safety stances," she said. However, Ioroi did receive a wave of hate from anti-vaxxers on social media.
