If you head east past the Conservatory of Flowers just inside Golden Gate Park, you'll find a San Francisco marvel: the Dahlia Dell. "It's stunning," one woman said. "The size and the scope. All of (the) varieties and flowers."

The plot is dedicated completely to the city's official flower, the dahlia.

Now is the time to see the colorful flower. It's in peak bloom.

"I love all of the colors and just how vibrant they are," another onlooker told KCBS Radio on Thursday.

The garden is maintained year-round by the Dahlia Society of California. Volunteers handle all of the watering, pruning and fertilizing of the garden's treasured dahlia flowers.

The dahlia was designated as San Francisco's official flower in 1926.
