San Leandro Police are warning people to stay away from Bayfair Center late Wednesday because of police activity.

Officials issued a community advisory on Monday afternoon in connection with what they said was orchestrated civil disobedience planned at the mall at 14th St. and Halycon Dr., calling the event a "planned looting." Other details weren't immediately available.

While police added they respect the rights of people to peacefully protest, "the information we have is that criminal activity is being planned."

A shelter-in-place order is under consideration but has not been called.

"The most important thing to know is that the safety of our community is our highest priority," a Facebook post said. "We will take all precautions possible to maintain the safety of our residents and businesses."

Police are beefing up security there and are encouraging others to avoid the area as a precaution.

They are asking the community to stay alert and stay safe, adding that if anyone witnesses anything suspicious they should call police right away and not try to intervene.
