On Monday, face masks will be required inside San Mateo County facilities due to rising coronavirus cases.
Last week, health officers around the Bay Area have recommended that everyone wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status with cases rising of the highly transmissible delta variant.
The delta variant has become the dominant strain in California. It's more contagious and spreads more easily and quickly than other variants.
San Mateo County will require face coverings when indoors at county offices, clinics and other publicly accessible facilities to protect public health.
"The increasing case numbers are a harsh reminder that we are not done with COVID and COVID is not done with us," said County Manager Mike Callagy. "Let's all continue to do our part by getting vaccinated and taking common-sense precautions so we can keep all of us safe."
While vaccines are proven to be highly effective against COVID-19, officials said they are taking action to protect younger children and overall public health as the number of cases are increasing.
