San Mateo County moves into yellow tier

San Mateo County officials announced on Tuesday that the county will be moving into the state’s least restrictive yellow tier for reopening.

According to a statement, San Mateo County will move into the yellow tier effective at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.

The move to the yellow tier expands capacity at restaurants, gyms, movie theaters and other indoor businesses. Bars that do not serve food can reopen indoors with a maximum capacity of 25% or 100 people, whichever is fewer. Places of worship can also expand indoor capacity to 50%.

"Moving to the yellow tier is a credit to everyone who has worn their masks to slow the spread and to the 76% of us here in San Mateo County who have rolled up their sleeves and gotten the vaccine," David Canepa, president of the Board of Supervisors, said in the county’s statement.

For San Mateo County Parks, the number of people allowed at reserved picnic sites will double to 100 individuals.

Group campsites will remain closed, but reservations are available for camping at Memorial Park for people from the same household.
