The Millbrae Anti-Racist Coalition helped spread the word about a rally on Saturday protesting the increase in hate crimes targeting Asian Americans during the pandemic.

The rally drew hundreds of people to San Mateo’s Central Park on Saturday afternoon.

The idea for the rally originally came from a peninsula 7th grader and fashion designer, Ashlyn So. "I was petrified and shocked but also I kind of knew that this was part of our society," she said after hearing about the recent attacks on Asian Americans,

She came up with the idea for the rally and, after her mom okayed it, posted on Next Door to promote it.

Ashlyn’s mom, Angela Wu, said there was an outpouring of support from the community with many families showing up together.
