
A San Rafael brush fire that prompted evacuations on Wednesday afternoon is now 90% contained. Fire crews are still on the scene mopping up and finishing containment.
In total, the fire burned 44 acres, according to The Marin County Fire Department. Although evacuation orders were issued Wednesday afternoon, they were soon lifted a few hours later around 6 p.m., allowing residents to return to their homes.
The Sheriff's Office told KCBS Radio earlier Wednesday afternoon it had evacuated about 400 people from 100 homes, and the department didn't open an evacuation center.
The Lassen Fire ignited at 2:27 p.m. on Wednesday, according to CAL FIRE, burning 30 acres in a shade over two hours. Firefighters from the San Rafael, Marinwood and Marin County fire departments responded to the fire, which burned upslope away from homes on Mt. Lassen Drive and Idylberry road yet prompted the county sheriff to issue "limited evacuation orders."
Air support was on the scene just before 3:15 p.m, according to the San Rafael Fire Department. All aircraft had been released by 5:39 p.m., the Marin County Fire Department said.
No injuries have been reported, and the fire's cause remains under investigation.
