A pedestrian was struck and killed during a hit and run incident in San Rafael early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The suspect remains at large.
Police were notified at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday of an unconscious male person on Merrydale Rd. just south of the intersection with North San Pedro Rd. They determined he was struck by a vehicle and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The suspect drove out of the area before officers arrived.
The victim’s identity is being withheld until the Marin County Coroner’s Office notifies his next of kin.
San Rafael’s Major Accident Investigation Team is reviewing video surveillance footage from the scene and conducting an investigation.
"We understand that the person driving the vehicle might be scared, but we encourage them to do the right thing and come forward so we can further understand what caused the collision," Lieutenant Todd Berringer said.
