Santa Clara County officials announced Thursday that they expect to receive 39,300 doses of the Moderna vaccine later this month, assuming the vaccine gets approved by the FDA.
The FDA’s vaccine advisory panel is meeting next week to consider the Moderna vaccine.
This will be in addition to the 17,550 doses the county expects to receive in the first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine.
These first doses will be made available to healthcare workers and residents of long-term care facilities. The first batch of doses will not be nearly enough to vaccinate everyone in those groups, but more doses are expected to come in subsequent deliveries.
Gov. Newsom says he expects that the state will receive about 2.1 million doses of vaccines by the end of the month.
These figures will help county officials to finalize their distribution plans, according to the vaccine plan they submitted to the state.
