For one major South Bay food distribution, there's a new item on the menu and it's sure to make your furry friends at home happy.

The drive-through food distribution at St. Lucy's Parish in Campbel has been going strong since the early days of the pandemic. It has become a well-oiled process but now that process has an added step of handing out pet food to dog and cat owners.

"With food prices going up and we were thinking well because dogs and cats are part of the family," Barbara Lee with the nonprofit's board told KCBS Radio. "If we can provide them with a $12 to $15 bag of food, they can use that money for their own table as well."

"It is very rewarding. I think it is really important that the dogs and cats get taken care of in the family too. They provide love and comfort particularly during this pandemic time, a really important part of the family," Lee said.

From here on out, the organization hopes to make pet food a regular part of their food giveaways.
