The effort to end homelessness would increase affordable housing in San Jose, Santa Clara and Morgan Hill.
"We have to help them achieve the American dream, the American dream of home ownership," Morgan Hill Mayor Rich Constantine urged in support of the purchase.
The project would be financed by the $950 million affordable housing bond known as Measure A, which passed in 2016.
"In Santa Clara County we continue to pledge to house families and children who are homeless in the next five years in a heading home campaign and will house veteran seniors and disabled residents," Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez stated in a press release.
The affordable housing will help those who are struggling financially to live in an area where the average income for a family of four is $150,000. If the purchase of land is approved, construction could begin between March and August of 2022.
Santa Clara County is one of the wealthiest counties in California with an median household income of $130,000, around 40% higher than the state average.
