SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A threat made on social media forced Santa Cruz High School to shelter in place on Monday, just days after students were led off campus by a false active shooter report.

A young boy who was not a student at the high school has been arrested after a non-specific threat was made to the school via an Instagram post.

"We're not protected just because we live in this seemingly peaceful hamlet of Santa Cruz," a frustrated parent voiced to KCBS Radio.

It was only last week that the school went on lockdown when someone called in a report of an active shooter with multiple people injured. The claim turned out to be fake, but not before the school was evacuated. "Obviously these cause a lot of emotion, sometimes it's just misinformation," Santa Cruz police chief Bernie Escalante said. "It is chaotic, but we make it as controlled chaos as possible."

School officials believe the latest threat may have been inspired by last week's incident. The boy arrested on Monday will likely be charged with making criminal threats. According to police, the arrest is not related to the Oct. 27 active shooter report, which is still under investigation.
