A man who allegedly held people hostage in a Santa Rosa apartment while brandishing a large knife has been arrested following a standoff with police.
The Santa Rosa Police Department said they received a call from a Sacramento resident who was in contact with a person being held against their will in an apartment with three other hostages, one being a five-year-old child.

The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Jarret Cole from El Dorado County, police said. Officers learned that Cole was making threats to burn down the apartment and kill everyone inside.
Police reported to the 500 block of Apple Creek Lane at 1:22 a.m. on Thursday and surrounded the apartment. Cole became aggressive with a male hostage inside the apartment and gave a woman the opportunity to grab his knife and run outside to dispose of it on the law, authorities added.
Cole made his way out of the apartment and started to yell at officers, showing signs of being under the influence of drugs, police said. For 15 minutes Cole stayed on the upper stairway threatening officers and once he stepped towards the stairs police shot him with a less-lethal foam round. Police quickly handcuffed him and got him medical attention at the scene.
None of the hostages were hurt. Cole was transported to a hospital.
He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and making criminal threats.
