Sausalito's controversial policies regarding the unhoused population have continued.

Homeless campers have been cited and fined $500 for sleeping just outside a designated encampment created by the city.

The two men had set up their tents just outside the perimeter of a fence that surrounds Marinship Park, where Sausalito created a campsite for the unhoused following the forced closure of another makeshift encampment about a mile away.

"I’m not happy that harassment continues here," said camp resident Jeff Chase, who added that the two men were getting ready to move into the encampment when they were cited. "The fence was arbitrarily put up and people need room."

"This place is full," said Chase. "So there were mainly families on the other side of the fence."

In June, Sausalito Mayor Jill Hoffman said the Marinship location is adequate, "Because all the services are done at Marinship Park and social service people are meeting people down there."

About 35 to 40 people currently live in the encampment.
