This past February, a DoorDash driver was carjacked during a food delivery in San Francisco while his two children were riding along as passengers.
On Wednesday, the man accused of the carjacking was indicted by a grand jury, according to reporting by KPIX.
The suspect, German Morazan, 27, was indicted on a dozen different charges, which aside from carjacking included robbery and kidnapping. The case was presented to a grand jury last week by Assistant District Attorney Michele Brass, KPIX reported.
On February 6, the DoorDash driver was making a delivery in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood when Morazan stole the vehicle, with the driver’s two children sitting in the back of the SUV.
Police recovered the car just hours after the incident sitting in a driveway, the engine still running, in the Bayview District. The two children, a one-year-old and a four-year-old, were unharmed.
Morazan, a San Francisco resident, was apprehended by police on Feb. 17. Investigators have accused Morazan of being the person who carjacked the SUV and kidnapped the children, but another suspect, Erlin Romero, 25, was also arrested for alleged involvement in the incident.
Romero, arrested in Bayview just a few days after the carjacking, had existing charges of robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle related to a different car theft from last year. He was wearing a GPS ankle monitor when arrested.
