Your favorite music venue needs your help.

Late last year, San Francisco Supervisor Matt Haney introduced legislation that would help music and entertainment venues in the city survive until the public can finally start visiting them again.

This week, the city's Board of Supervisors voted to establish the San Francisco Music and Entertainment Venue Recovery Fund, aimed at specifically helping independent legacy venues in the city stay afloat during the COVID-19 crisis.

Venues that can apply for grants must meet at least two of five established criteria, which includes being in imminent danger of closing, capacity less than 1,000 people, an official legacy business, at least 15 years old and "importance" to a designated cultural district.

It is estimated that San Francisco venues need about $48 million to survive.

Funding has been available up to this point via San Francisco Relief Grant program and the Save Our Stages Act. The venue relief fund is expected to be permanent and people can donate themselves at Give2SF.org.
