A San Francisco firefighter critically hurt when he was knocked unconscious by a hose is out of the hospital and in rehabilitation late Wednesday.
The incident happened November 2 as crews responded to a high-rise fire on the 19th floor of a building in the city's Financial District. Firefighter Matthew Vann had been at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital ever since.
Vann left the hospital to an ovation from first responders Wednesday.
As "the incident was resolving," a Muni bus drove through the staging area and Vann fell when he was inadvertently struck by a hose line. He hit his head on the ground so hard that he was knocked unconscious and wasn't breathing.
The hose was reportedly tangled under the bus.
Vann is from Station 1 in the city's South of Market neighborhood and has been a San Francisco firefighter for six years.
The incident remains under investigation.
