The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and San Francisco Police Department said an unidentified man's body was found on the tracks at Arleta station in the city's Visitacion Valley neighborhood on Sunday night.
An SFMTA spokesperson told KCBS Radio on Monday that the agency, police and California Public Utilities Commission are "currently reviewing detailed footage" after a T-3rd Street Muni Metro train struck the man at around 9 p.m. on Sunday night.
The spokesperson said the very next train reported the man's death. Police said they were called at 10:12 p.m. after city employees discovered the man's body on the tracks.
State and local officials "will be making recommendations about what, if anything, could prevent a collision like this from happening again," according to the SFMTA spokesperson.
"We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the person struck on Sunday," an SFMTA spokesperson said.
It's unclear how long the medical examiner's investigation will take, and when the man will be identified. Neither the San Francisco Police Department nor the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to KCBS Radio's emailed requests for comment prior to publication on Monday afternoon.
