San Francisco’s Public Health Department says it will run out of its supply of coronavirus vaccines in two days.

It’s yet another sign that there still aren’t enough vaccines to meet demand.

"All of the Department of Public Health’s remaining vaccine doses are scheduled for individuals to receive their first or their second doses this week," Mayor London Breed said in a media briefing Tuesday. "Unless we get more vaccines, the Department of Public Health will run out of our existing supply by this Thursday."

Public Health Director Dr. Grant Colfax blamed an inconsistent and unpredictable flow of vaccines from the state and federal governments.

"We received a fraction of the doses we requested from the state," he explained. "DPH’s allocation from the state arriving this week is only 1,775 doses."

That’s compared to last week’s 12,000 doses.

The department’s shots go to the uninsured and some essential workers, and the supply is separate to the allocations given to private providers. The city still plans to open the first mass vaccination site at City College of San Francisco by the end of the week.
