Cities were ranked based on cultural attractions, restaurants, professional sports teams, shopping venues, nightlife, concerts, access to parks, outdoor activities and several other factors.

San Francisco scored well when it came to parks, attractions, pro sports options and shopping. It was also one of three Northern California cities to make the list with Santa Rosa coming in at no. 10 and Sacramento at no. 24. San Diego took the top spot, Los Angeles came in at no. 7 and Fresno made the list at no. 26.
