San Francisco will require workers in hospitals, nursing homes and jails to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with limited exceptions.

The requirement would go into effect within ten weeks after the Food and Drug Administration fully approves the vaccine.

Currently, the three vaccines being administered have been given emergency use authorization, but have not been officially approved.

Health experts expect the FDA to fully approve at least one of the vaccines by fall.

Workers can request exemptions for a medical reason or due to religious beliefs.

Those who are exempted will be required to keep wearing masks at work and get tested for coronavirus at least once a week.
