Police are conducting an investigation into a traumatic home invasion and robbery in San Francisco that left two sisters cowering in a bedroom.
On Tuesday at around 9:30 a.m., a gray vehicle backed into the victim's driveway in the Outer Mission. The suspects broke through the front door of the property while two sisters were sleeping inside, KPIX reported.
"I heard thumping upstairs, but I thought it was just my mom coming in like maybe she forgot something," one of the sisters told the station. "So I went back to bed, but the thumping, things like moving around kept going for another five or so minutes and I thought it was weird. I was really suspicious already so I got my phone…I went upstairs and I called out like 'Mom, dad is that you?'"
Nobody answered, so she woke up her sibling and called 911. "I hid in the closet, because I didn't know what to do, I was really scared," she said.
The robbers began breaking down the bedroom door where the sisters were hiding when one screamed and scared the robbers off. The suspects left in a getaway car with cash, jewelry, handbags and sentimental items, the station said.

Police told the family they believe the robbery was targeted. "They told us they target Asian households. They look for Asian families," one sister said to the station.
The family has since increased security measures at their home. They have not yet revealed their identities out of fear for their safety.
KCBS Radio has reached out to the San Francisco Police Department regarding the robbery, but has not yet heard back.
