One of the last groups to return to in-person learning amid the pandemic may be college students.
San Jose State University is preparing now for a nearly fully-reopened campus in the fall.
SJSU is anticipating 75% of classes will go back to normal in the fall semester, although it will be the new normal, where some students take classes in-person, some take virtual classes and many take both.
Vice President for Student Affairs Patrick Day said they will also increase dorm capacity from the current 20% - or one-student-per-room - to 60 or 70%.
“Many students will be in doubles, but we’re still limiting use of bathrooms and which students use what bathrooms,” Day told KCBS Radio.
Weekly surveillance testing will also be required.
Junior Savannah Perkins is looking forward to being on campus for the first time ever.
“Because I transferred, my entire experience with San Jose State has been completely online,” Perkins said.
While every CSU campus will have a slightly different reopening plan, the Cal State system has said courses will be primarily in-person starting in the fall term.
“We can’t wait,” Day said.
