SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Celebrities are returning to the golf course this week for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in Monterey, just weeks after the severe weather ripped through the area.

The Monterey coastline took a beating during this month's storms, causing some parts of the coastline, including some roadways, to collapse altogether. Fortunately, repair work began as soon as it was possible.
"It was, of course, a tricky time, during the height of the storms," said Rob O'Keefe, President & CEO of the Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "But we were open throughout."
All the beautiful areas of Monterey were open to visitors, including Carmel and Cannery Row. Despite the storms and how they affected the area throughout the month of January, O'Keefe is optimistic going forward.
"Now, it's blue skies, gorgeous weather, perfect for the upcoming Pro-Am," he said.
And O’Keefe is hoping that the event will prove to be the antidote for the possible apprehension visitors might have coming to the area now.
"It's a postcard to the world, not just to the people who are here," he said. "People are going to see how beautiful we are and that the storms have passed."
Regardless of the rain, it's important for people to know, "we're back, we're open, we're beautiful, come visit," said O’Keefe.
There is still some cleanup underway, but the majority of the damage that was done during the storms to major roadways has been taken care of.
Some potholes still need to be filled, but otherwise, visitors don't need to worry.
