San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa sent a letter to both the county's treasurer and CEO of the county's retirement association, urging them to analyze and disclose all Russian-related investments.
"We're the third wealthiest county in the United States so what we do here really will resonate in other parts of the country," Canepa said.
Canepa is calling on the county to divest from any Russian holdings immediately, similar San Mateo County's action earlier this year to divest from fossil fuels.
"In my county we do not want any investment in Russia. Not one penny, not one single cent," he declared, adding that staying quiet on Ukraine is being complicit.
"We have other actions with the Ukrainian community, planned to work with them in solidarity on legislation outside of this," he said.
