A nearly month-long investigation led to authorities arresting 29-year-old Rhyan Hodge of Bay Point at her home without incident on Tuesday. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday filed six felony charges against her.
The arrest and charges stem from an incident at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, captured on viral cell phone footage from both the victim, who spoke to KPIX and identified herself as "Amaro," and other witnesses in the drive-through line at the McDonald's at the 2300 block of MacDonald Ave.
Hodge, who claimed Amaro cut her car in line, can be seen first screaming obscenities at Amaro before pelting water bottles and other materials at her car. At the end of the Amaro's video, Hodge rams her car into the back of Amaro's vehicle, whose two young children were also inside.
Amaro told the station she then jumped out of her car. According to police, Hodge proceeded to strike Amaro with her vehicle, and carried her on the hood of her car for approximately 50 yards onto Nevin Avenue before tossing her onto the ground. Hodge exited her vehicle, punched Amaro "several times" and fled the scene.

"I told her, 'Stop, you can’t go anywhere,’ and that’s when she went straight at me,” Amaro told the station. "I was able to hold onto the hood of her car and my legs were dangling off the vehicle, I was holding on, and she just took me out of the parking lot … It was terrifying. I still get really shaken up by the events that happened, and the trauma that my kids and myself had to go through."
Amaro added her children were watching the scene unfold from the car.
"My sons have nightmares," Amaro said. "I didn’t say anything to her, I didn’t look at her. So, it was just kind of like, why did she attack us?"
The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has charged Hodge with two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of misdemeanor child endangerment, one felony count of assault likely to cause great bodily injury and one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident.
Police ask anybody with further information related to the case to contact Detective O. Guzman by email at OGuzman@RichmondPD.net or by calling 510-672-2493.
