Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a downtown Santa Cruz bank and drew a bomb on his demand note on Friday afternoon.

Authorities were alerted to the theft at 2:19 p.m. at the Comerica Bank on 25 River St., officials said in a release.

The suspect allegedly presented a note to the bank teller with a bomb drawing and a demand for money. No weapon was seen and nobody was injured.

By the time officers arrived, the masked male thief had fled the scene on bike after successfully stealing an disclosed amount of money.

Police were able to quickly canvass the surrounding area and found evidence where the man changed clothes to avoid capture.

The suspect’s description is limited to a male with unknown race and unknown age.

An investigation is ongoing as detectives speak with witnesses and sift through video surveillance footage.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the case to call their Investigations Unit at (831) 420-5820 or email Detective Rock at erock@cityofsantacruz.com.
