It’s time to bring back tupperware parties.

Marin County supervisors are considering an ordinance that would require all restaurants and other eateries to provide reusable containers for takeout services.

The ultimate goal is to eliminate plastic waste from containers that wind up in landfills.

Instead, customers can wash them out and reuse them, or compost them.

"We would have a suggested list which would include many types of compostables," said Marin County Deputy Director of Environmental Health Services Greg Pirie.

Some examples include cups, plates, bowls, to-go containers. People might even be able to bring their own containers in when they order food.

Going to a landfill and seeing just how much plastic waste is contributed by to-go food orders from restaurants is a big motivator, said Pirie.

The proposal is set to be presented via Zoom on Wednesday.
