Police: Teenage daughter helps fight off Sunnyvale mom's bedroom attacker

A 32-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a Sunnyvale woman's teenage daughter helped fight him off her mother during an attempted rape on Saturday morning, authorities said.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said Jorge Diaz broke into a home in the 1300 block of Yarmouth Terrace in Sunnyvale at 3:45 a.m. and attacked an adult female sleeping in her bed.

Diaz allegedly straddled the victim while holding a knife to her neck and threatened to kill her if she screamed. He punched the victim in the head several times and bit her forearm, police said. The victim's 13-year-old daughter, who heard the alleged attack, helped her mother fight off the suspect. Authorities said he fled the scene.

The victim has wounds on her hands, arms, and head from trying to fight off her attacker. When officers arrived on the scene they provided first aid before she was taken to a local hospital. She has since been released and is in stable condition.

On Monday, investigators arrested Diaz inside an apartment in Mountain View.
