The boy was taking his dog for a walk just before 9 p.m. near the 1500 block of 7th Avenue on Aug. 2 when an unknown vehicle approached him, Oakland police confirmed to KCBS Radio. The armed suspect got out of the passenger seat of the car and demanded the dog from the boy, police said.

The suspect took the dog and drove off.

"The passenger came outside and told me to give him the dog. And I looked at him. He pulled out a gun. I wasn't going to risk it, so I gave him the dog," the teen told KTVU. The boy said that the man was in his late teens or early twenties and was a light-skinned Hispanic.

He said the suspect was wearing a purple camouflage hoodie and faded blue jeans and had a buzz cut, the news station reported.

The family is still looking for their dog and is offering a $1,000 reward.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 510-238-3426.
