Retail theft inside San Francisco Walgreens locations is well-documented, even pushing the chain to close several locations due to those ongoing shoplifting challenges last year, despite data that showed no correlation between viral incidents of retail theft and the chain's reasoning.

The video – which shows a brazen retail theft that turned into a food fight – was captured by professional photographer Nicholas Stennet at the Richmond District Walgreens at 5280 Geary Boulevard on Tuesday.

In it, an unidentified man dressed in black with a face covering is seen rummaging behind the counter filling a large bag with various items as multiple Walgreens employees signal for help, asking him to stop several times before he finally relents and turns to leave the store.

When a customer tries to intervene, the masked man challenges him: "What? You want to go?" He then grabs a handful of nearby bananas as Walgreens staff tires to deescalate the fight and throws them at the customer. When the customer returns fire, then suspect turns back around and stunningly throws bags of snacks back at the customer before leaving.

Stennet, whose work can be found on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, told KGO the suspect appeared to be taking small electronics and COVID-19 tests from behind the counter before the incident turned violent.

The identity of the customer isn't known.

KCBS Radio has reached out to Walgreens and San Francisco police for comment about the incident but has not yet heard back.
