It was just after 5:45 p.m. on Thursday that police responded to a call outside a restaurant in Pittsburg.

The child's father and owner of the car had driven to the La Piñata restaurant at 95 Bliss Ave. and had gotten out to talk to another man when he arrived. He'd left the vehicle running, with his daughter in the back seat in a car seat, while he was just a few feet away in conversation.

A short time later, according to police, a woman approached the men and asked if either of them had a cigarette. Neither man did, and the woman started walking away, towards the car.

She then jumped into the driver's seat and sped away.

Based on surveillance footage of the incident, the woman has been described as white, in her 30s, medium build, with a tattoo on the left side of her face. She was wearing a black sweater and gray sweatpants.
Investigators are still working on an identification.

An Amber Alert was issued soon after the kidnapping and other alerts were made to nearby law enforcement agencies.

A couple of hours later, the 2007 Chevy Tahoe was found abandoned near Army Street, with the little girl still inside, sitting in the back.

The toddler was uninjured and reunited with her family.
