The rescue occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the construction area for Mission Rock, a new waterfront neighborhood and housing complex in San Francisco, located right across the bay from Oracle Park.

The baby fox, no larger than a six-week old kitten according to SFGate, was stuck in the hole of an uninstalled pipe at the site.

Workers heard noises coming from the pipe the night before, and discovered the fox's head coming out of one of the holes, the outlet reported. They left a french fry for it overnight in an effort to lure it out, but later realized it was stuck.

The construction crew contacted San Francisco Animal Care and Control, who needed special tools to dislodge the animal. Officers used baby oil and took turns pushing and pulling to free the fox.

The rescue took approximately 30 minutes.

The fox was given to the Yggdrasil Wildlife Rescue, who cleaned and fed her. She will receive care until she is ready to be released back into the wild, the organization said.

It's unclear where the fox is from or how long it had been in the pipe. Yggdrasil Wildlife Rescue director, Lila Travis, speculated to SFGate that the fox was originally from Sacramento, got separated from her mom, and ran into the pipe for shelter.

"Then the pipe was shipped to San Francisco for the construction project and the baby was trapped and tried to get out through the tiny port but got stuck," she said.

Travis added the fox was emaciated and dehydrated but doing "surprisingly well" considering her circumstances. She is expected to be okay.
