
United is banking on travel rebounding in the next few years post-pandemic.
The airline is adding up to 4,000 new jobs in the Bay Area as part of a new expansion.
Also San Francisco International Airport’s biggest carrier, United Airlines is planning a 270-plane expansion of its domestic fleet, according to reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle.
The airline is buying new aircraft from Boeing and Airbus to increase seats on domestic flights by 30% by 2026. As a whole, the expansion includes 25,000 new jobs at Newark, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Houston, Denver and Los Angeles airports.
The plan is expected to contribute $50 billion to the U.S. economy by 2026.
For the first time since the pandemic began, United anticipates making a profit in July. The company’s revenue in the first quarter of 2021 was $3.22 billion, a 60% drop from the previous year.
