Federal investigators are hoping that $40,000 will serve as motivation to receive more details about the kidnapping of Monica De Leon Barba.
The 29-year-old was staying with family in Mexico in November when she was reportedly forced into a van in Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico.
Officials investigating the case believe that someone in the Bay Area might be able to help.
"We know that people in Mexico talk to people here in California," said FBI Special Agent Robert Tripp. "That the people in the state of Jalisco talk to people in California."
The FBI doesn’t believe there's a direct connection to the Bay Area, but according to Tripp, secondhand information often leads to an arrest.
Several other United States citizens have been kidnapped in Mexico in recent months.
This prompted the U.S. State Department to issue a do not travel advisory for two areas in the country.
De Leon Barba has short black and blonde hair, and brown eyes, and was wearing black clothing at the time of her reported abduction.
"We're asking people that hear something – either directly or secondhand – to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALLFBI," said Tripp.
